In January, Wholesale Inflation Lowers to 0.27%

<p>The wholesale pricing index (WPI)–based inflation rate decreased to 0.27 percent in January, mostly as a result of food prices moderating.</p>
<p>December 2023 had 0.73 percent WPI inflation.</p>

<p>From April through October, the WPI inflation rate remained negative; however, in November, it began to rise, reaching 0.39 percent.</p>
<p>The commerce and Industry Ministry released a statement on Wednesday stating, “The annual rate of inflation based on the All India Wholesale Price Index (WPI) number is 0.27 percent (provisional) for the month of January 2024 (over January 2023).”</p>
<p>According to reports, food inflation decreased to 6.85% in January from 9.38% in December 2023.</p>
<p>Vegetable inflation decreased to 19.71 percent in January from 26.3% the previous month.</p>
<p>In January, the WPI inflation rate for fruits was 1.01 percent, while it was 16.06 percent for pulses.</p>
<p>In January 2023, the wholesale inflation rate was 4.8%.</p>
